Jim Boyd is an accomplished sculptor based in Rothesay, New Brunswick. He holds a BFA in Sculpture from NSCAD in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a BEd from the University of New Brunswick.
Boyd primarily works with stone, drawing inspiration from his deep connection to nature and his experiences living by the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, Canada. His artistic achievements extend far beyond his local community; Boyd has actively participated in numerous international sculpture symposia including the prestigious Schoodic, Maine International Sculpture Symposium in 2011, and Sculpture Saint John in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022. Additionally, he showcased his talent at the Buyukcekmece International Sculpture Symposium in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2013. As part of the Canada/US International Sculpture Trail, Boyd’s seven permanent public sculptures grace communities in Maine and New Brunswick, leaving a lasting impact on both sides of the border. Boyd has also been commissioned for projects at the Botanic Garden in Fredericton, the Town of Hampton, and the Deep Sea Festival in Saint John.
In recognition of his community contributions, Jim Boyd was awarded the Senate Sesquicentennial Medal in 2017, selected by Senator David Adams.

This summer I am looking forward to participating in the 2026 Symposium Norge International Sculpture Symposium in Larvik, Norway. It’s a great opportunity to return to Norway and continue working in a setting focused on large-scale public sculpture and shared dialogue.
Following that, I will be taking part in a six-week residency at the Buffalo Creek Art Center in Gardnerville, Nevada as part of the 2026 Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation International Creative Residency program. I’m one of eight artists selected for this year’s residency, and I’m excited to spend time developing new work in welded and fabricated steel alongside glacial stone. I’ll be exploring ideas around migration and movement during this time.
I’m very grateful for the opportunity to take part in both of these programs this summer and looking forward to the work ahead.
I feel that the mentorship with Rob Good who participated in Symposium Norge, was of great benefit to me, as we had many conversations related to international sculpture symposiums and sculpture in general. We certainly plan to maintain contact and continue our professional dialogue and friendship into the future. Hopefully we will meet up again in another international sculpture symposium.
Thank you to the Sheila Hugh MacKay Foundation and The Margaret Woodson Nea Mentorship Award for the funding this mentorship.
I am also very grateful to ArtsNB for the Creation Grant in 2024. The receiving this grant enabled me to create a my monumental stone sculpture titled Troll Pots during the 21st Symposium Norge Sculpture Symposium in Larvik, Norway. This prestigious sculpture symposium selected 9 international sculptors from 160 applicants. It was an honour to be the only artist from North America to participate in this symposium.
